New Jersey Dealership Encourages Drivers to Take AARP Class

Friday, January 30th, 2009

In an effort to increase driver awareness and safety on the state’s roads, your New Jersey dealership encourages you to participate in the upcoming AARP Driver Safety Program. The program is taking place on February 9 and 10 and the South Jersey Healthcare Elmer Hospital at 501 West Front Street and drivers of all ages are welcome.

Drivers who attend and complete both courses will receive a certificate of completion. They can then that the certificate to their insurance company to qualify for a five percent discount on their premium. If they have points on their license, the certificate will also reduce those points by two.

The program includes a refresher classroom course designed for older drivers, but all ages are encouraged to attend. Defensive driving techniques, safety and new traffic laws will be the focus of the program. Instructors will also teach older drivers how to make proper adjustments to accommodate for changes in hearing, vision and reflexes.

AARP members can take both courses for a cost of $12 while non-members are charged $14. It’s worth the price to get the reduction in insurance costs, though. The program may also make you feel more comfortable about going to your Bound Brook area Chevrolet dealer and driving away in a new or certified pre-owned car. Either way, learning how to be a safer driver is a responsibility we all need to share.

Chevrolet Dealer Discusses New Program for Senior Drivers

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Your Chevrolet dealer knows there are few things worse for senior drivers than being forced to give up their keys. Unfortunately, it’s a reality that many older drivers cannot escape.

But a new program in Florida could change those fears and spread to other parts of the nation as well. The Independent Transportation Network, or ITN, is a service that runs 24 hours a day and seven days a week for seniors. They can go anywhere they need to go while somebody else does the driving.

The program was started by a woman in Maine. One of her family members was struck by an 84-year-old driver who should not have been behind the wheel. She wanted to give older drivers another opportunity to go where they need to go without getting behind the wheel and putting other lives at risk.

If the program can attract enough drivers in the areas in which it will be available in Florida, it will kick off in March. “In order to launch our rides, we have to have at least 35 – I would like 50 – volunteer drivers recruited and trained, ready to go to start first rides the end of March,” said one person involved with the effort.

If you’d like to help a good cause like this, you can donate your car and get a good tax deduction for it. You can then replace your car with a new one from your Elizabeth area Chevrolet dealer. That way you can help yourself and others at the same time!

Chevy Dealership Warns of Sirius XM Rate Hike

Monday, January 26th, 2009

If you wanted to get Sirius XM Radio installed in your new car once you buy it from your Union area Chevrolet dealer, now is the perfect time to do it. Sirius XM Radio recently announced the prices are going up for new and renewing subscribers.

The price hike is planned to occur on March 11. Therefore, if you want to avoid the additional $2 charge and $2.99 fee for Internet radio, you can buy a three-year subscription now and lock in your current rate.

Sirius XM Radio is raising its prices to help pay off some of the debt the merged company has accumulated. And since Sirius XM Radio is the only service of its kind, they can pretty much do whatever they want to do because there is no competition for customers to consider.

Satellite radio has many benefits. Many stations are commercial-free and you have many more options to choose from than you do with terrestrial radio. If you can afford the subscription rates, satellite radio is a perfect addition to any new or certified used car that you purchase from your Chevy dealership. Check it out today and you’ll be hooked! Just be sure to do it before March 11 for the best available subscriptions rates.

New Jersey Dealership Warns about Deadly Driving Times

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

If you’re like most drivers, you probably thought Friday afternoon rush hour was the most dangerous time to be on the roads. You probably also think that winter driving causes more accidents than summer driving. But your New Jersey dealership wants to bring your attention to this article that dispels those beliefs.

Information reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows that Saturday is the most dangerous day to drive on the highways. In addition to that, data shows that August is the deadliest month on the roads. In fact, in 2008, 800 more people died as a result of traffic accidents in August than in January. One of the reasons for this difference may be due to the fact that drivers tend to be more cautious when the roads are covered with snow. Many drivers may even opt to stay home when the snow starts falling, reducing the number of people on the roads during the winter months.

The overwhelming majority (95 percent) of traffic accidents occur as a result of human error. Distracted driving is a major contributor to this percentage as drivers lose their focus when they decide to text, talk on a cell phone, eat or take their eyes off the road to change the radio station.

Your Bound Brook area Chevrolet dealer encourages you to adjust your driving habits to be safer. We have to share the roads, so it’s important that each driver is as responsible as they can be.

NJ Chevrolet Dealer Congratulates Devils

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Your Elizabeth area Chevrolet dealer would like to take this time to congratulate the New Jersey Devils on their win to bring them closer to the Atlantic Division leaders.

In the papers, there has been a consensus that the return of Brendan Shanahan (formerly of the Detroit Red Wings) was a great contribution to the important win. Shanahan recently signed a contract with the New Jersey Devils for one year. He will receive $800,000 for the year, but he did not know how much he would actually be playing. Luckily for the NJ Devils, he still has “it” as he scored a power-play goal at 1:30 into the second period which motivated the team to beat the Nashville Predators 3-1.

“I didn’t know if things would come back right away,” said Shanahan. “I probably played a little more than I expected. I still think I have a lot of work to do. This is a game that has a lot of adrenaline. It is just one game. There is a long way for me to go and a lot of building for me yet.” Those are humble words coming from a man who played an integral part in three Stanley Cup championships with the Red Wings!

Can you think of a better way to go to the games than in a new car from your local Chevrolet dealer? Check one out today and go to the playoff games in style!

Chevy Dealership Offers Winter Driving Safety Tips

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Your Chevy dealership knows that winter driving can be treacherous at times. As a result, we’d like to offer some winter driving tips to help you stay safe on the roads.

1. Be prepared. Make sure you have your car tested before winter or do it now if you didn’t do it before it started getting cold. Have the battery, tires, wipers, coolant, heater and other fluids checked to ensure everything is in proper working order.
2. Keep emergency materials with you. In case you get stuck, you’ll be glad if you have some essential items, including a first aid kit, extra clothing, shovel and a flashlight. Also, cat litter is ideal for putting under your tire to help your car gain traction on the snow and ice and get unstuck.
3. Slow down. You never know when you’re going to hit a patch of black ice. By slowing down, you are more likely to maintain control of your vehicle and prevent sliding.
4. Get some gadgets. A GPS device can help prevent you from getting lost and it can help you find help if you get stuck. With a car from your Union area Chevrolet dealer, you can get the OnStar system and get emergency help with the push of a button.

New Jersey Dealership Welcomes Brendan Shanahan

Friday, January 16th, 2009

I’m originally from Flint, Michigan. I’ve rooted for the Detroit Red Wings for more than 25 years. That’s why this story caught my attention.

Your New Jersey dealership would like to welcome Brendan Shanahan to the NJ Devils. Although he played with the New York Rangers for the last two seasons, he’ll always be a Red Wing to me. Shanahan was with the Wings during three of their Stanley Cup wins and he has 1,340 points in 1,490 NHL games. He signed with the Devils in the 1987 NHL draft and currently ranks 11th on the career goal list. In 1991, he left the Devils to play for the St. Louis Blues.

Shanahan scored 23 goals last season in 73 games but still finished with 46 points. Those may not seem like impressive numbers, but those are simply the lowest numbers he’s had since his rookie season more than 20 years ago.

While he’s playing for the New Jersey Devils, we’d like to invite him to visit our Bound Brook area Chevrolet dealer for a great deal on a new or used car. After all, one of the best players in the sport should be behind the wheel of one of the greatest brands in the auto industry.

Chevrolet Dealer Discusses Credit Scores and Insurance Premiums

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

You already know that your credit score affects your ability to get loans, credit cards and other financial aspects of your life. But did you know your credit score can also affect your insurance premiums? Your Elizabeth area Chevrolet dealer has three things you should know about your insurance credit scores so you can hopefully save money on your auto insurance premiums.

1. Insurance scores consider past financial history, including debt and payments. A large number of credit cards and balances will count against you when you get auto insurance in that you will likely pay higher premiums.
2. Almost all states allow insurance companies to consider credit scores. Hawaii is the only state that does not allow insurance companies to consider credit history when determining auto insurance premiums.
3. Recent activity is used more than old activity. If you have a recent history of paying your bills on time and using your credit wisely, that will carry more weight than your old credit history. It shows that you have “turned over a new leaf” and are probably less likely to file a claim with the insurance company for an auto accident.

Saving money on insurance these days is essential. And now that you know your credit history has an effect on your premiums, you can work to fix it.

NJ Chevrolet Dealer Applauds Fewer Traffic Deaths in 2008

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Your Chevrolet dealer wants to recognize and applaud New Jersey drivers for being safer than ever in 2008. According to AAA Mid-Atlantic, traffic-related deaths in 2008 fell below 600, making last year the safest on record for the Garden State.

“It appears to be an historic low,” said David Weinstein with AAA Mid-Atlantic. “The significant decrease in the number of miles we’re driving is absolutely a contributing factor. Coupled with all-time high seatbelt usage, the proliferation of effective traffic safety advocacy and aggressive enforcement of laws, New Jersey is on the right track.”

Of course, a major reason for fewer traffic deaths is because New Jerseyeans (as well as everybody across the country) didn’t drive as much in 2008 as they did in previous years. Gas prices kept more people home and others finding alternative forms of transportation during most of last year.

The year saw 562 fatal crashes with a total of 597 losing their lives on NJ roads last year. Before 2008, the previous annual lows were in 2000 and 2004 when 723 people died as the result of traffic-related incidents. In 2007, 724 fatalities were reported on the roads.

With the state’s roads safer than they’ve ever been, you have just one more reason to visit your Union area New Jersey Chevrolet dealer. You can get a new or certified used vehicle and have a little more confidence that you will avoid accidents when driving around the state.

Get a Great Tailgating Truck at Your New Jersey Dealership

Friday, January 9th, 2009

With the Super Bowl fast approaching, it’s time to start thinking about getting a truck from your New Jersey dealership so you can throw your own tailgating party. Whether you plan on going to the actual game to tailgate or doing it in your own backyard, tailgating is the perfect way to enjoy any football game. Once you have your new tailgating truck from your New Jersey dealership, you can use these tips to make your party a success.

1. Dress the part. Find as many clothes with the same color scheme or with the logo of the team you are cheering for. You can even pull a David Putty from Seinfeld and do some face painting to “support the team” while you’re at it.
2. Bring an ice chest. If you’re going to the stadium’s parking lot, bring some coolers packed with your favorite beverages. Of course, you won’t need much ice since it’ll be the beginning of February
3. Bring a grill. A tailgate party is nothing without a BBQ grill. Bring enough meat to feed people around you and don’t forget the utensils!

While you’re looking for perfect tailgating Chevy truck at your New Jersey dealership, why not invite the guys from your Elizabeth area Chevrolet dealer to your party? It’ll be a blast!
