Hyundai’s new Genesis coupe, which will appear at Hyundai dealers in the United States in the spring of 2009, is already on the roads in South Korea. This car is built for performance and the test numbers prove it.
The Genesis Coupe is a rear wheel drive coupe. It is available in a 3.8-liter, 310 horsepower V6 model, as well as a turbocharged 2-liter base model capable of producing 223 horsepower. The V6 get high marks for performance, going from 0 to 60 in just 5.9 seconds.
There is speculation that the base model will be slightly less powerful when released in the United States, hitting only 210 horses. The base model is able to go from 0 to 60 in 8.3 seconds, which is a fairly modest number. It is also powerful, however, that the U.S. version of the Hyundai Genesis couple will be lighter than the Korean model, and that the engine will be retuned, possibly getting a 0 to 60 time of 7.5 seconds.
