Auto Review: 2011 Porsche Cayenne Turbo

Few vehicles on the road are as beautiful and drivable as the 2011 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. This SUV has class, but it also carries the trademark Porsche sports luxury look and feel.

The estimated fuel economy is 17 miles per gallon on the highway but, officially, the EPA hasn’t released its estimated figures yet.

Perhaps one of the most impressive things about the Porsche SUV is its pick up speed. Loaded with a V8 engine 4.8-liter performance and 500 horsepower with 516 pound feet of torque, the Cayenne Turbo can get from 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds. The top out speed is 173 mph.

The transmission is 8-speed automatic.

The start/stop system is another impressive feature, combining practicality with green technology. When stationery, if the driver’s foot is on the brake the engine will cut off automatically. The on-demand four wheel drive system operates on rear wheel traction until the electronic sensors a wet clutch and that’s when the front wheels dig in and grip.

Porsche gives rear passengers more legroom with the 2011 generation of vehicle. Its also lighter than the previous version, by about 400 pounds. The interior control panels are also classier and easier to use.

Off-roaders will not like the 2011 Porsche Cayenne Turbo, but it wasn’t built for off-roading. Porsche learned that lesson from the 2010 vehicle. Those features were nixed to return to the class Porsche strengths. You will be impressed with the hug of the Porsche SUV tires on the road at high speeds and you can manage feats you won’t even come close to in other SUVs.

While not all available in the U.S., European drives of the 2011 Porsche Cayenne Turbo can order the vehicle with a diesel engine or hybrid. Porsche has almost outdone itself.
