You may be noticing a trend in the auto industry. More and more people appear to be taking to Facebook Live, with broadcasts ranging from highly produced to completely off the cuff with almost no structure.
Facebook Live has been around a couple of years now, but few began taking advantage of it early on. Now it seems you can’t go a single day without multiple notifications that somebody is “Live.”
Now, when we launched our new weekly live broadcast last month, let’s be clear, this was not to follow suit. Quite the opposite in fact. We are leading the way. AutoConverse ON AIR was a long time coming for us, more than two years in the making.
Path to ON AIR
In 2015, before Facebook Live existed, I began experimenting with live streaming personally using Periscope and Blab. But prior to that, in 2012, shortly after Google Hangouts was introduced, was when I fist began experimenting with live streaming. At the time, Google Hangouts broadcast to YouTube where anyone could view your broadcast, live and recorded.
In 2017, as we honed in on a formula, we introduced Refresh Fridays on DealerRefresh. At that time, DealerRefresh Founder Jeff Kershner was reluctant to the idea, but with the help of Big Tom LaPointe we were able to drag him onto the air each week.
Now nearly a year later, Kershner has finally taken the reigns of the show and is doing it without our involvement. Way to go, Jeff!
Which brings us back to AutoConverse ON AIR
At AutoConverse, we explore the people, ideas, and technologies influencing how we are connected and how we get around. This includes automotive, aerospace, marine, and recreational mobility. It includes travel, mass, and public transit. It includes energy, sustainability, and alternative fuels. It also include smart cities, smart homes, robots, AI technology, and the likes.
This might seem broad, but ultimately we are exploring mobility and connectivity at the macro level and in the granular.
The name AutoConverse was first conceived in 2010. It was meant to be what we were calling at the time a “social e-commerce platform” for automotive owners, enthusiasts, merchants, and dealers.
The idea never took off and we sunset it after about 18 months. In 2016 we decided to convert AutoConverse into what it is today – a blog about the Future of Mobility & Connectivity.
Now, with AutoConverse ON AIR, we have a broadcasting platform that makes it feasible to bundle in all that we do on a periodic basis across all our blogs and social media channels.
Even better, each broadcast session is recorded, re-produced, and the released as an edited video and also on the all-new AutoConverse Podcast.
How to Watch
There are two ways to view the live broadcast:
- You can sign up to join via Zoom. Zoom is the webinar platform we use to conduct the show and stream live. Joining us on “the Zoom” is like backstage access to the live show. You only need to sign up once. By doing so you will be notified the day before each scheduled broadcast. Of course, you can always unsubscribe if you want.
- You can join us on Facebook. Be sure you are following our company Facebook Page www.facebook.com/AutoConversion and have notifications turned on. This way you are notified when we go live. We have a recurring Facebook Event where we schedule the date and time of each upcoming broadcast. This is also where we share our show notes before and after each show.
After each live broadcast we then take the time to re-produce a recording of the show, which we then publish onto our YouTube channel and on Facebook. In these edited versions, we trim out the pieces and segments that were only relevant to the live audience which results in a more condensed version of the show.
How to Listen
We also encourage you to subscribe to our podcast where we are releasing the re-produced editions of our live broadcasts. If you’re not familiar with podcasting or want to learn more about our podcast, read Introducing the All-New “Future of Mobility” AutoConverse Podcast.
PS – If you’re interested in getting involved, let us know. Maybe you’d like to appear as a guest on one of our programs. Maybe you have some ideas for the show. We also are open to sponsor support so if this is something you’d like to see your band or company associated with then please get in touch.
